It’s Not A Diet…It’s my LifeAfterCubes Part I
by Jason -- August 8, 2009
This is a longer post, so I decided to break it up into two separate posts. The purpose of it, is to explain what LifeAfterCubes means to me.
I have many goals with the upcoming trip. I’d like to eat healthy, exercise, see a lot of different places, interact with a lot of different cultures, learn new languages (Chinese and Korean) and start an online business. The more I think about these things, the more I realize how difficult accomplishing all of those goals are going to be. Sure, we’re going to have plenty of free time, but it will go fast, and if I don’t focus on my goals, time will slip away and I’ll end up back here before I know it…most likely back in a cube.
The more I think about it, the more I realize that the key to my success is to not think of this as a vacation, but rather as the next phase in my life. I’m not making a temporary change, this is a permanent change of lifestyle. This isn’t a diet, a pointless temporary change which ends you back at square 1, but this is a change of lifestyle.
This doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m traveling for the rest of my life. But this could perhaps mean that I no longer have an office. That I no longer have to be in a certain place to do my job. I no longer have a commute. I no longer have to be available between 9am and 5pm pacific coast time. And I no longer have to dread Monday’s.
While this all sounds promising, there are negative implications of this mindset…I’ll go into those on my next post.
